And the follow up!

We found out two days before Julia hurt her finger that Lacey would not be needing surgery. Our pediatrician and dentist were trying to get things done ASAP, while the Oral Surgeon (who specializes in this stuff) says, let’s take a look at it when she is 5, and then again when she is 10, and then if we are concerned we will do something, but it’s too early and may never need to be done! We were counting our blessings then, and then when Julia got hurt, I was counting them ALL over again!!!

Julia was a real trooper with her cast on. She slept really well at night, she would come in my room about 3 am each morning, feeling sorry for her I’d put her in bed with me, and about the 5th time I was hit in the face with a cast each night, I’d put her back in her own bed.

Of course, we had to get a new family picture since we got new couches. The new couches now clash with the wall color… not for long though. They will be painted soon… Orange anyone?!

Julia hated the attention her cast brought, we usually saw her walking with her arm behind her back trying to hide it from everyone. As it turns out, it’s hard to hide something that is as big as your little body.

Even  so, it never slowed her down. She rode her bike to the park several times, and she was very resourceful. I saw her on several occasions hauling things in her mouth and under her arm. It was heart breaking, but oh so cute!

When it came time for the cast removal, Julia was a little apprehensive. not because the cast was coming off, or because it was scary but because she thought her finger was still broken and that was why she had the cast on. Once we explained to her that it was getting better and was fixed, she was A-OK, UNTIL they broke her cast. She wanted that thing in tip top condition, Why? Well, she told the nurse, “You can’t break it, I’m going to put it on Kevin’s shelf in his room!” (that’s where we put all of our special things!)

Her finger looks pretty nasty in these pictures, but now that all the dried blood has been washed away and most of the stitches have come out, it’s looking much better.

This is when we told her she can still take her cast home! YAY!!!

I do love when my children take self portraits! Julia caught a very unusual angle!

After a LONG day of playing, I gave Julia a bath and had her lay down to let her finger dry out and eat an apple. She lasted a whole 2 minutes and was snoozing away.

We had a play group party at our house on Wednesday. Cody helped me clean up the night before. As soon as he started sweeping I said, “Wait a minute, I need to grab my camera.” He was not entertained, but I was grateful for his help. Our little party turned into 30 kids and 18 Moms. It was quite the shindig, and I think most everyone had fun.

I love when Julia dresses herself, she has such a great fashion sense!

Every morning Kevin practices his reading. It cracks me up because he sits at my feet to read his words and after each word he will ask, “How many more do I have to do?!”  I love hearing him read and I love the sense of accomplishment in his voice when he discovers each new word. Julia usually sits on the floor next to him and between each word she asks about 47,000 questions about anything you could ever imagine.

and while this is all going on, I’m doing the dishes and Lacey is eating her breakfast in her fancy new walker, going from one end of the kitchen to the other, usually running into the two floor sitters at least 3 or 4 times a piece.

This last weekend we went to St. Paul to visit J.D. and Ashlynn, as we pulled off the interstate Julia said, “are we in Minnesota?” When I said yes she said, “Well, where’s my So-duh then!?”

Ashlynn gave me a haircut and did a very nice job.

Lacey is lucky to have two overly loving older siblings, and those two older siblings are lucky to have such a mellow little sister.

The day before leaving to MN Lacey started army crawling. It is so cute to watch, I find myself not doing anything but watching her get from one place to the other. On Monday night after going to bed Lacey must of known Cody and I were out partying in the living room because she came out to join us, and amazed us with her new found skill of sitting up. It only lasts a few minutes, but she is pretty darn proud, and so are we.

And then the strangest thing happened. I woke up this morning in a bit of a funk. Whenever that happens my kids know to hide all of their goods. It either means I’m in de-junking mode or in need of a change. This funk was a feeling frumpy funk, and I decided to CHOP my hair off. This last weekend while in St. Paul I was admiring my Sister in laws super cute A-line, and today I decided to spice up my look by chopping off my locks and adding a little peek-a-boo blonde. It was just what this Mama needed and my children’s Operation-Hide-Your-Things threat level is back to normal.

Nap time today was a little jumbled. Kevin picked the pack-n-play, Julia opted for the crib, and Lacey took my bed.

We wrapped up our evening with a little bath in the sink for the Princess. She sat up on her own the whole time, and only kind of enjoyed this new experience.

Before drifting off to sleep we listened to a few tunes, This baby has rhythm. Anytime she hears music she does a little head bang and her hold body bounces to the beat. It’s oh so cute, and I’m oh so jealous, cause I’ve got nothin’!
