4 K

Yesterday was Kevin’s first day of 4K! He was so excited and so nervous that he could not eat before he left.

He also slept terribly the night before. His teacher had given him a package of “Jitter Glitter” that was to be sprinkled on his head the night before school to help him sleep tight and to make him not nervous. The first words out of his little mouth upon waking “That Jitter Glitter did NOT work last night!”

Due to his excitement, he was sitting on the front step waiting for the bus at 7:45. His bus does NOT come till 8:45, but he was too worried that we would miss it. So Julia and I joined him on the porch. I reminded him 8,100 times not to get off the bus at the first stop because his school was the 2nd stop. And every time he said, “I KNOOOOOOOOW!”

Julia rubbed his head (for a long time) a good sign I knew he was nervous.

and then the bus came, his smile got wider,

and he boarded without even looking back.

Julia was a little out of sorts, asking 3 minutes after he left, “How much longer til Kevin comes home?” But we managed to have a good morning, and she managed to sweet talk her way into a container of lip gloss and an icee.

Due to the high heat and humidity we pulled out the pool and the girls helped me weed the flower bed while we waited…

and waited….

and waited some more for Kevin to get home.

After he was 30 minutes late I called the bus company to learn that our substitute driver was lost in our neighborhood (which we often hear referred to as the labyrinth.) About 15 minutes later he came running off the bus with a grin as big as he was.

The poor kid informed us later that night that when the bus driver said, “I don’t know if we will ever find your house!” That he started to get really scared, but then the lady on the walky-talky said, “Kevin Gray’s Mom is on the phone” and he knew I was looking for him. (Seriously made me cry, and makes me cry just typing it!)

Last night we made a picnic dinner and went out to the airport to watch Cody do some touch-n-Gos. It was SERIOUSLY so fun!!!!

So, here’s what happened in these to pictures. The kids and I were sitting behind a hanger right on the edge of the run way and Cody was down the alley doing his pre flight inspection. Lacey was sitting nicely enjoying her bottle when Cody started the engine, Lacey chucked her bottle and screams, “DADDY!!!!!” and takes off around the corner.

When she and the kids got around the edge of the building, it was hand clapping, squealing, and laughter. They were so excited to watch Cody fly.

taxing

There were tons of jumpers out. When they would pull out their parachutes it was the loudest popping noise and caught us by surprise. They landed in the field right next to us.

Julia pretty proud to watch Dad circling around behind the hangers.

I didn’t get any pictures of his take offs or lands because I videoed all of them. We had so much fun though. The kids enjoyed every second of it and I did too.

Day two of school was some what successful. The (substitute) bus driver accidently had all the kids get off at the same school (the first one that I reminded Kevin relentlessly not to get off at yesterday) Kevin said, “she told me to get off so I did, and I started walking to the door wondering which class I should go to!” Which is when the bus driver caught her mistake and called Kevin and the other two little kids back to the bus and they made it safely to their school. On the way home, he arrived right on time with a great big smile!!!

The third day.... well the bus forgot him completely. Thankfully, the bus depot is on speed dial and I quickly called in. She finished up her route and then came to get Kevin. She stopped at the top of our circle (or bus stop is our house) and I could hear her say, "I'm at the stop and no one is here!" I ran up the circle a bit and yelled, she quickly drove in. When she stopped she was super apologetic saying she had misread the map. I sent Kevin on his way reminding him NOT TO GET OFF AT THE FIRST SCHOOL! The afternoon ride went off without a hitch.

I thought day three would be our golden day, perhaps it'll be day 4!!!

Despite the mix ups... Kevin LOVES school and Julia is super d duper excited to start tomorrow!!!

We are blessed and we know it!

What a great kid! Seriously, your neighborhood is a stinking maze. I support your bus driver in being totally lost.
