Today is May Day, to celebrate, we went to the library to decorate a May Pole. The kids loved it. Our neighbors preschool class came and our awesome neighbor, Karen, who runs the preschool and will be Julia's teacher in the fall, introduced Kevin to 4 boys he will go to kindergarten with. Karen's 6 year old, Riley, was also there on a field trip with his kindergarten class. My kids are so excited that they are getting to know people and they love running into familiar faces. I think this has been especially important for Julia. She has been so concerned about when we will be moving again and often asks, "when will this house be old?" The more people we meet and the more things we do, she becomes less worried about us moving again.
I've been sad because I feel like so many important things are missing from the blog and as I prepare to make it into another book, there are things I really want on here. Here is a run down.
Starting with Cody. He is in heaven. He purchased his first Harley and has since added some things to make it his own. New speakers, grips, switches. He loves, loves, loves that baby and I'm so glad! He has worked so hard and really earned it. Cody's work schedule has been awesome. Although he is gone over night a few times a month, the home office days and being home between 2 and 5 all of the other days really makes up for it. In May and June, he will be a busy bee, Laconia bike week is here in New Hampshire for 10ish days, and although it's here in town, he will be gone before we get up and will get home after we are fast asleep. However, we will be able to go and meet him for lunch or dinner whenever we want to. Cody is a hard worker and works his Hindy off whenever he is home. Right now, he is cleaning out the storage room while I tend to a constipated baby, who is finally resting for the first time in 4ish hours. Cody and I are also doing insanity together in the mornings. I LOVE working out with him. We have had so much fun,
And now the kids. For the record, they pretty much think I'm the most boring thing on the planet. Which pretty much hurts my feelings. It doesn't matter what I do with them during the day and how entertaining I am, I'm still boring! Boohoo!
Kevin, he has been a rebel lately, but after, my sister, Tessa's genius idea to give the kids really small boundaries outside when they break the rules, there have been less issues. And he has been tons better about asking permission to do things and go places. Kevin is still my very sweet, loving, compassionate boy. He is growing by the minute. Today I let him skip naps to play with me, which he picked a game on his phone to play instead and then stood in my room and talked my ear off while I fed Elena, and I was amazed at how much he has grown and once again reminded to be more patient and remember he is only 5!
A funny story from Kevin, for a little background, his motorcycle needs some tuning up and he hasn't been able to ride it....
Me- what's wrong with your bike?
K- I don't know, I think the disposal is broken.
Me- the disposal?
K- yeah!
Me-oh.
K- it has a disposal right?
Me-laughing- I don't think so!
K- oh! Well, it's broken.
Me- do you mean the carburetor?
K- yeah!!! That's right. Dad needs to fix the carburetor!
Kevin plays outside all day every day and especially loves playing with Julia and the neighbor boys. They are always building something, finding bugs, climbing trees, or getting wet.
Kevin refers to everyone as "dude" and starts every sentence with, "dude, look at this!" IF Kevin is inside, you'll probably find him eating or playing Legos.
Julia is a ticking time bomb. She goes from as sweet as sugar to a fiery hot sauce in seconds. She always gets the last word in any argument or discussion. She has lost interest in the tv and a cup of cereal. (She used to want to watch tv with a cup of cereal all day every day.) she never eats her food and is learning a long hard lesson on not wasting food. She loves to be told a story. Not read one, but, "tell it from your lips." She loves helping in any way, shape, or form. If I find we're getting into a fiery funk, I can try to reel her back in by having her help me do something. Change a diaper, clean a bathroom, cook something. Anything that's helping. She still loves her Super Julia cape and wears it tons. Every morning Julia wakes up and makes her bed. The top three inches of her quilt is folded over to show the purple on the bottom, which I just learned that she does that because of Cinderella. Cinderella throws the quilt up into the air and then the birds catch it and put it on the bed folding the very top of it over. She them goes potty, brushes her teeth, (which is a very meticulous routine in and of its self.) she then dresses herself and comes upstairs with a big smile to show off her pearly whites. Julia is a daddy's girl. She loves helping her sisters and tickling Lacey until Lacey is mad. Which resulted in a wrestling match today proving that Lacey can hold her own. Julia is a tall, lanky, bean pole. She is wearing 4t and 5t shirts and when I was trying to find her summer clothes, we put her back into 2t. Pants of course are too short but shorts and skirts are just right. Any time Elena is upset, especially when we are driving, Julia likes to sing twinkle twinkle little star or rock-a-by-baby. A funny from Julia. She was telling jokes in the car, with each joke she told they were getting worse and worse. She started telling jokes about underwear to which I said, "that's enough!" And she said, "but Mom-uh! I'm talking about clean-uh underwear!" And the last Julia-ism. Every time she prays she prays that Elena will get better because she thinks "puking up is so gross!"
Lacey is changing so fast. She has used the toilet a few times now. She is talking up a storm. She often tells the big kids, "that's enough!" And "no more!" She learns new words all the time, don't be surprised to hear, oh man, oh jeez, and what. She can now say all of her body parts. Anyone that mentions the baby will get caught with Lacey telling her all about Laney. She starts with, Baby! Baby, Lena. Baby Laney blanket, bottle. Baby Laney eye, chin, button, nose........and she goes on and on and on! She longs to run with the big kids. She loves the stroller and going for walks. She still has serious stranger danger. She is ALWAYS talking on her phone (a red shim from Cody doing hardwood floor) to Granny. Granny is usually working whenever they "talk." Lacey tells her all about what she sees around us. I love listening to her describe what she is seeing. She usually throws in a few random colors, but really has no idea which is which.
Lacey's funny... She thinks its really funny that we say "cheese" to the camera, and anytime we give her cheese she holds it up like a camera and everyone sitting in the room has to smile and say "cheese" before she eats it. She loves "snacks" (fruit snacks) and "treats" (anything else in the snack cupboard.) and can open most of them on her own. At mealtime she will tell you wether she wants to sit on the "chair" or "bench" at the table, and every meal time she spills her water. (Sometimes on purpose!) she still loves her blanket and bottle and she is currently obsessed with wearing a dress with flip flops. She is also wearing 24'month and 2t clothes. She is wearing now what Julia was wearing 6 months later at the same age. She will have her two year check up soon which I'm terrified about. She HATES the doctor. I'm going to have to take her on a day Cody is home to take care of the other kids.
Elena! She hated nursing. After three long, stressful weeks of trying and trying, we finally switched to formula, and it has been seven days of pure bliss. Meal times no longer last well over an hour and she is easy peasy. Minus the constipation. Oh man, she's miserable. Prune juice seems to be helping, but she is still miserable. This girl goes from dead asleep to frantic screaming every meal time. There is no warning or fussing in between, it's sleeping to, "I wanted this five minutes ago!" She is doing better at night times. I only got up twice last night, but three or four times has been the norm. She loves to be swaddled nice and tight and she loves the swing, but isn't too fond of the bouncy seat. But, despite the downs, we love this girl to pieces, and she fits right in as baby #4. (But, if someone asks us how the baby is doing, we usually talk about Lacey Baby because we usually refer to her as "Lacey Baby or Baby.") and believe this or not, our library gave Elena a special baby book and on the inside it's written to "Elena" and the librarian said, I hope you spell Elena with with an E!!!
Ahhh.... I feel so much better getting those things down so that I can remember later all these great things about our beautiful babes.
We are blessed and we know it,
