Leading up to Christmas Elena started with the flu bug. :( we had grand plans, parties to host and parties to attend. But the sickness started spreading and everything was canceled. It stung my heart and I was down in the dumps and I was lacking in sleep in a huge way. On the 23rd, my Sister answered her phone (she probably wishes she hadn't) and I cried to her about my exhaustion and I had a pity party and then when I hung up, I decided it was time to have a ball. We made peanut butter Reece's cookies and the girls and I had a nail party and we went on a McDonalds run for dinner and started heading to look at lights when Kevin starting throwing up. Thankfully I had grabbed a bowl and was sitting next to him in the car. We raced back home and read stories before climbing into bed. Christmas Eve everyone was feeling much better, but still so sleepy. We had a low key day, I did some more baking and Cody worked on mudding the addition to the stairs. We enjoyed a ride in the skid steer bucket and went out again to look at lights. We had a great time and the kids LOVED the lights at the speedway. Oddly, the kids feel right to sleep and slept all night long, and get this, they even slept until 6:34. That is unheard of around these parts. It was a true Christmas miracle. We opened presents. I succeeded in keeping my first secret from Cody in 8 years. I got him all the essentials for ice fishing. The kids were fun and grateful. And we were all spoiled. My parents sent us the first 2 of 17 DVDs of our family movies. After face-time with our families, We enjoyed one and then the kids all climbed in bed. Thankfully, Christmas Day everyone was healthy and we were able to attend a delicious Prime rib dinner with the Temple and Jensen Clan. We arrived home and all melted into our beds. It was a glorious day of well mannered children (phew!) and time spent together. Yesterday morning we were up first thing and out the door to go learn to ice skate. Santa brought ice skates and we gave Kevin hockey lessons and Julia figure skating lessons. It was a very fun morning. Lacey and Elena only lasted about 40 minutes, which means I only skated for that long. But Julia lasted about 1 1/2 hours and Kevin closer to 2. It was lots of fun, they're both itching to get back out there. Sadly, just before dinner time Cody came down with the flu and last night Julia started with stomach cramps, so, needless to say, today has been very low key. Hopefully we can ring in the new year happy and healthy with a plate full of crab legs! Yum!!!!
