Lacey Gray

The grand story.

I was scheduled to have my water broke on Thursday morning. We got there just a few minutes before 6 and found out that my doctor had requested to deliver the baby. (Normally you take whoever is on call!) We were very happy about this, BUT our doctor was not working at the office located at the hospital. Since he had other appointments, he had them start me on Pitocin and then he would come and break my water once I was closer to a 10. After being on Pitocin for 3 hours I’d only dilated another half a centimeter and had had no painful contractions yet, although they were coming every 3 minutes. After begging our super awesome nurse to beg the doctor to come and break my water he gave in.  My water was broke at 10:20 am. Lacey 08-20-2011 001

Here’s my view on a natural birth while going through it- I screamed things like, “NO epidural was a STUPID idea!”  “I’m not going to do this anymore!” and "Can’t you give me something!  IT HURTS!” That being said, I made it through the the end, but I’d NEVER again choose to do it naturally. Why put yourself through all that when you don’t have to. I was SO exhausted the rest of the day and was kicking myself because I could have sat there numb as can be and been happy and perky the rest of the day.

Anyway- Back to the birth of this little girl. The doctor came and and checked my at about 3 minutes to 11 and I was dilated to an 8.5. He told me I was doing great and that he’d be back in a few minutes. The nurse followed him out the door. Not even 20 seconds later Cody had pushed the call button and hollered, STOP PUSHING! The baby had crowned and no one was in there. In the few seconds it took the nurse to get in there, I heard Cody say stop pushing about a dozen times and she has a head full of hair. The nurse ran in and sat on the bed and caught the head just as it came out. The doctor was soon to follow and sat on the bed and caught the body on the next contraction. Lacey arrived at 11:02. With a massive amount of hair. I think half of her 7lbs 11 oz. is in hair.

In a lot of these pictures you can see how purple her face is.  She was delivered so fast that she has HORRIBLE bruising. Today the swelling is gone but she has to black eyes and a black nose. We go in in a few hours to have her Billy Rubin levels checked again.  We are hoping and praying that since she is a champion of an eater that she is clearing the jaundice out of her system so that we aren’t on the jaundice blanket for 10 days like we were with the other kids.

Kevin and Julia are doing quite well so far. Kevin seems to be doing the best.  He loves holding Lacey, and when he is, he doesn’t want help. He wants her in his arms and he wants to support her head all by himself.

Julia is a wild rollercoaster. She goes from angelic to demonic in seconds. She wants to hold the baby herself and pick her up and play with her and she does not want anyone in a 10 foot radius. She needs whoever is holding the baby. There has been lots of back talking and fit throwing. (all of which I was expecting!)

Really, nothing melts my heart more then to get out of the shower and to find Daddy rocking baby. Cody has been great. He is so supportive and loving. Last night Lacey was NOT going to sleep. He took the 2-3 AM shift and got her all cuddly and sleepy and to bed. I was so grateful.

I’m so glad Granny is here. As are the kids. My sister in law Ashlynn came up with Madie for one night and the kids had a slumber party in Granny’s room.  They were VERY disappointed when they had to sleep in their own room last night.  Who wouldn’t want to party with Granny really? Poor Granny though, with all 4 kids talking in their sleep at one point during the night and 2 obnoxious snorers (Blake and Jordin) I don’t think she got much sleep.

But we’ve eaten well and the kids have played hard and had a blast all because of Granny.

(This is Julia fighting Cody, to have sole possession over the infant. I video taped a little of it. There was screaming, and she yelled, Go away and I do it my self a few times!)

Julia is certain that Lacey is just like one of her babies.

Because of all the fun, Kevin and Julia have been falling into bed at nap time and bed time. Kevin has been really good. I’m grateful for my caring little boy.

And of course, no child of mine will go a whole 30 hours without their first photo shoot.

As you can see, the subject was not too cooperative.  (But this is my favorite picture of them all.)

Tears.....you're family is so sweet!! I can only imagine Rosie would act much like Julia and Cruz would be just like Cruz. Hopefully we'll be catching up here soon! Enjoy your mama and sweet little girl!

She is so adorable! I love that hair! I had the same thing happen with Kaitlyn. The Dr. had to rush in and deliver her all on her own with no nurses!
