We’ve had a birthday SHOUT hooray!!!!

Today is Julia’s big day! Three years! THREE YEARS? HOLY MOLY! It’s hard to believe this little girl that zipped into the world on her own time frame has continued to do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING on her own time frame. If it’s not in her plans, it just ain’t happenin’, and if it is in her plans and it isn’t in mine, well I better be ready for a fight!  We love this little girl to pieces. We love her fire and we love her sweet voice and her contagious giggles.

So… let me give you a run down on our very entertaining birthday bash last night. Cody left at seven this morning and isn’t home yet so we decided to celebrate as a family last night. Julia picked our dinner, loaded bake potatoes (with taco fillings), she loves dishing her own food, and I think one of the reasons she loves loaded baked potatoes is because she can make it HOWEVER she likes it!

Then I put the #3 candle in her potato and she started to get nervous.

JUNE2012 036

Then Cody lit it up, which she thought was pretty cool,

Then we started singing and this was two words into the Birthday song. Complete discomfort…

JUNE2012 038

And this was the 3rd word- at which point we stopped singing, blew out the candle, and she said,
“I don’t like that song!” We acted as though nothing had ever happened and we all devoured our dinner.

Cody’s family gave Julia a gift card to build a bear. After the disastrous birthday song we decided we’d redeem it that night. Kevin was uninvited at first, but after begging and pleading, and PROMISING to not ask for one thing and to be happy for Julia that she was getting a new toy we uninvited Lacey and took Kevin with us. It’s a good thing he was there because Julia would have just bypassed all the fun if it weren’t for her loyal big brother.

Together they stuffed the cow and put two hearts in him (he’s a special cow!)

Then they washed him.

And Julia picked out clothes. That she did NOT need help with. Then she named her cow Betsy.

And then she snuggled on that cow and pushed her foot (she giggles when you push on her foot) all night long!

Julia soaked up that mall business. Aside from the Pocatello Mall and walking in the back entrance of a near by mall to go to the toys and then walking right back out, she’s never experienced a real mall! She had her purse on her shoulder the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed every ounce of window shopping. Then after making her purchase she threw her bag over her shoulder and strutted herself right out of that mall. It was adorable.  Thank you Thank you for the Build-a-Bear gift card. Not going to lie, I WAS a build-a-bear hater, but I am no longer. It was quite fun!

*The rest of our day is out of order from here on out, but who cares.

Tonight Kevin had golf lessons. He is doing really well and can drive the ball really far. I love hearing him say, “Now I need my iron, I think I’m ready for my putter now. and, This one, I need a driver!” He sounds so grown up and like the real deal! My neighbor friend Colleen, bought a bucket of balls for her son and let Julia take a few whacks.

As soon as we got home we scarfed down a hot dog and headed out to the field to continue golfing and play bubbled. And Lacey sat in the grass for the first time with out putting up a fuss.

After the singing incident last night we talked to Julia about 15 times telling her that people would be calling to sing her Happy Birthday today and that she needed to just listen and say thank you. Because they were trying to make her feel special. She said Ok, and then my parents called. I told her before I handed her the phone that they were going to sing and she said ok and said Hello. She made it about 5 words into the song before she was embarrassed and crying again. Kevin had no problem taking over the phone call and a few minutes later she came to me and said, “I’m ready to tell Granny and Pa Thank you for calling!” It was so sweet and so tender. Love this girl.

After Build-a-bear we went to pick out Julia’s cake. She picked a beach themed cake. She loved the sand on it and the sand toys. Today we picked up a few pizzas and met her friends at the park for pizza, cake, and bike riding. On the way to the park Julia said, “I’m ready for people to sing to me.”  So Kevin and I sang to her in the car and she said she wanted us to sing at the park too.

We started with pictures and she was pretty excited.

Then we started singing and she got about half way through the song before she said,

JUNE2012 019

in a choked up voice, “Mommy, I just need you to blow out the candle.” We all stopped singing, I blew out the candle and we started eating cake.

JUNE2012 017

This is Julia with her best friend Livie, and Livie’s Mom Sarah, who Julia thinks the world of and calls her Aunt Sarah on occasion. I’m often asked, “Do you think Sarah has pink nail polish? Do you think Sarah will like this? Will Sarah be there? When can I go to Sarah’s?” We are lucky to have Sarah and Livie. (P.S. Sarah’s husband was our life saving friend that helped out during Julia’s finger surgery.)

This is my super awesome neighbor and friend Colleen with her little Liam and her Haile is in the other pictures. Julia loves going to Colleen’s house as well and is totally distraught if we do something, anything with out inviting Colleen and her kids.

We’re grateful to be blessed with awesome friends that fill the shoes of missing family members.

JUNE2012 022

This is what Julia looked like two minutes after getting in the car from the park.

JUNE2012 023

Present opening. Julia had ZERO interest in actually opening the presents. She let Kevin do all that and then would play with the items after they were opened for her. New socks, a big baby, a bubble machine, a little diaper bag to go with the baby, and an iPod.

JUNE2012 041JUNE2012 045JUNE2012 051

After opening the iPod she said, “This iPod is so cool. When I get bigger I am taking it to school and I’m going to show Ms. Lisa!'”

JUNE2012 052JUNE2012 053

This Big Baby wears 3-6 month clothes very snuggly. Lacey likes to play with/attack her.

JUNE2012 055JUNE2012 056

And, while I was taking Julia’s pictures this morning I had to snap this one of Kevin. He spends about 60% of his outside time tucked in this tree in the center of our circle.

JUNE2012 061

And if you hear Lacey squawking odds are she is high centered under the dining room table.

We had a super fun day celebrating Julia’s birthday. Despite the shyness, she really did Love being treated like royalty. Thanks for all the phone calls, gifts, and cards. We are blessed and we know it!
