J.D., Ashlynn, Madison, and Hayden came from St. Paul to join us for Thanksgiving. And we are glad they came. The kids played great (minus the fact that Madison despises Lacey BIG TIME!) and the food was fab!
My Mom and Dad gave us our Christmas Present while my Mom was here, the NINJA Blender. Oh-MUH-WORD~ LOVE THAT BEAST. It made Thanksgiving cooking and all my cooking since then so fun.
Because Cody's FAVORITE football team on the entire planet is the Lions, and because Cody only ever watches football once in the entire year, and because the Lion's ALWAYS play on Thanksgiving, we had our Thanksgiving in front of the TV again. I must admit, it is fun, and although I love the fancy-ness Thanksgiving can hold, I do love our Thanksgivings watching football. (I never watch football, nor did I really watch this year either!)
The little kids loved the picnic table, however I should NOT have put Lacey next to Madison. I couldn't get her to look for the picture because Lacey was bugging her. FYI- all Lacey has to do is move to bug her. :) The weather was delightful on Thanksgiving and the kids were able to play outside for a good hour or more and we also enjoyed a quick trip to the park before it got dark. 60 degrees and heavenly.
Kevin enjoyed his turkey this year but didn't touch anything else. That's a big step, last year he only ate his birthday cake. He didn't even touch his Thanksgiving dinner.
I made jalapeno poppers this year. It made Cody very happy!
Thanks for coming J.D. and Ashlynn. Sadly I was sick on Thanksgiving day with an awful migraine, the night ended young with me doped up and Cody guiding me to bed so no games were played this year. SAD too since it's our last Thanksgiving together.
J.D. and Ash gave Julia this super awesome paint set. It is SOOO NICE. You guys should see Cody's super sweet nature art work hanging on the fridge, Yes, you read that right! Cody's! Lacey enjoyed painting for her first time and was doing really good dipping the brush in the water, then into the paint, then applying on paper. After about 15 minutes she was bored and dumped the water everywhere. Thanks Lacey Baby!
We permed Julia's hair again the day after T-Day. It's so fitting for her and so fitting for US right now. She currently does not enjoy getting her hair done. A little spritz of water and a touch of gel and we are golden! I must admit this look is my favorite on her. It is just so Julia!
Saturday, the much anticipated day finally arrived. My baby Kevin turned the big FIVE. I have had a hard time accepting this birthday. Five just seems so big. Sadly, Cody started throwing up about 5:00 in the morning and had the flu all day. Between that and having to be out of the house for three hours for showings we tried to make the best of Kevin's birthday! It started with present opening at 6:30 AM! The most common phrase out of his mouth, "What the What?!" (We say that too much around here.)
Me telling Kevin FIVE reason's I love him. (the 5th he did NOT appreciate! I love you because you were my first baby and you will always be my baby! His response, "I am so not a baby anymore!")
And then Kev pancakes with a candle in them.
Then I cleaned like mad while Lacey napped and Kevin and Julia rode their scooters in the basement and Cody spent some quality time with the porcelain in the bathroom. I kicked Cody to the curb a few minutes after ten and finished sanitizing and cleaning our room and bathroom minutes before we were supposed to be gone.
We started with lunch at McDonalds. Only the McDonalds we went to is different then the McDonalds by our house and did NOT start serving lunch til later so we had breakfast again. Kevin scarfed his food down in seconds flat, and I made Lacey mad so she wouldn't eat, and Julia said she didn't feel good. We were in McDonalds all of 12 minutes while Cody was greeting the bush in front of the van. We had planned to hit a movie but in Cody's condition, I have a nasty barking cough, and Lacey's nap was less than an hour we decided to hit up the Big Back Yard where I had free passes too. Cody stayed in the van/parking lot and the kids and I played for a few hours. It was a mad house and Kevin had tons of fun with all the little boys that were there. Lacey ventured off to the stairs and slides for the first time. She was silly and enjoyed going down head first. Once the girls had reached melting point and we knew the house was cleared out we headed home for naps.
Kevin's was super quick because he knew this was waiting for him once he awoke. The only problem, I made him wait two more hours for Julia to wake up to eat it with him.
He was soooo excited for his power ranger cake. LIKE SO SO SO EXCITED.
Like SO SO SO EXCITED he was okay with the fact it was chocolate.
We wrapped up the night with dinner in front of the TV watching the Lorax.
I took Kevin his Mac N Cheese with a candle in it and he said, "Weird, You've delivered all my food today with a candle in it. That's...interesting!" Anything for you my Kevo boy.
A few things about my Kevin Boy-
-He is very generous.
-He is a very good helper.
-He loves gaining new independence and learning new things. Tonight he made his own toast with butter and was very pleased with himself for doing all of it with no help at all! (And to be honest, I think I was more excited!)
-He loves creating. He always has a project going with glue, scissors, markers, paint, and whatever else he has found outside or around the house.
-He loves doing whatever Cody is doing.
-He says some pretty funny things. Yesterday he explained to me in great detail how to have a thumb war! He also came home from school the other day and said, "Miss me Miss me, now ya gotta kiss me!" He busted up laughing thinking for sure I'd never heard such a thing. It was so cute. I love "MOST" of the things he is learning at school.
-He loves learning facts. He currently loves to read a book we have on Polar Bears-BOOOOORING! It's long and full of facts, he has most of them memorized. He also loves the discovery channel. One of his favorite episodes is on Monster Trucks. He can spew off a bunch of random monster truck facts, along with other random facts too, like how much an AVERAGE semi truck weighs. (Don't ask me, I can't remember!)
-He is excelling in school. He along with two or three other kids in his class are currently working on the kindergarten curriculum because they were too bored with the 4K stuff. He is catching onto reading like you wouldn't believe. His math skills are also top notch. His adding and subtracting is something else. (I'm most excited about this, I still struggle with my times tables, although I eventually figure them out on my own, the thought of having my kids proficient in them makes me happy!)
Kevin R. You are my favorite 5 year old ever. I'm lucky to be your Mom. I'm grateful for your eagerness to learn and to be doing. I'm grateful that you love working and understand the joys of working hard. I love that you are so interested in everything Dad is doing and that you love going out to help him and be with him. I'm grateful that you are so sweet (sometimes too sweet) to your sisters. They are lucky to have you just like I am lucky to have you.
I love you more than ice cream!
-Mom
That wrapped up our night... a few hours after this I was struck with the flu bug. Thankfully Cody was feeling quite a bit better. Sunday we had a short visit from Cody's brother, Logan, who stopped by to pick up Grandpa Kevin's Harley. It was fun to see him, but it broke poor Kevin's heart that he only stayed for a few hours. We were then kicked out of the house again for 4 more showings. (SO NOT COMPLAINING!)
Rewind 10 days... I was having some serious side ache/back pain. Like SERIOUS, SERIOUS. Pain I'd never before experienced. After waiting 5 or so hours, Cody trying to decide if he should find a flight home from his conferences, and me finally calling my Mom. My Mom thought for sure it was a kidney infection because I'd had a bladder infection a few weeks prior, I finally decided to call my Doctor. They insisted that I see the nurse and so I went in. All my tests came back negative and I left with them telling me, it's either A- appendicitis and when it gets worse go to the ER or B-The baby is sitting weird, either on your bowl or twisting your stomach and once it moves all should be well. In the middle of the night I got super-d-duper sick, but it passed rather quickly and I started to feel better. I figured the baby had been sitting weird. For the next 6 days I kept having the same pains in my back, but I just figured that baby had moved to a weird position again. On the day of my ultra sound they decided to culture some of the tests and I got a call the next day saying that I did indeed have a Kidney infection and "sorry" I had to deal with it for so long. Thankfully, I learned of this just an hour or so before I had planned to go in to the urgent care for what I thought was Strep Throat. I figured, Antibiotic, two birds, one stone! The back pain subsided quickly and so did the intense sore throat, and now I am left with the annoying hacking cough. So annoying I only slept 3 hours last night. THANKFULLY Cody did not fly out until late afternoon and he babied me all day long. He started his day by tucking me back into bed with some cough medicine. He ran with the girls to the store to get cupcakes for Kevin's class, I had planned to get up this morning and make them, but I was in no position to work with a hot oven and sprinkles, and dropped them off. Came home to give me migraine meds, feed the girls, clean the garage, feed the kids lunch, and nap all the kids. That's when I finally emerged from my deep slumber with a migraine that had no plan of leaving. He gave me more meds, finished the laundry, changed a diaper, tucked the last little one into bed, packed his clothes and ran out the door for the airport. I never would have survived my day without him. I finally felt better about 6:00 tonight. The coughing had subsided, the migraine was gone, so was my voice but I felt normal once again. I tried to go to bed a bit ago, but the coughing started again and instead of being miserable like I was last night, I decided I'd blog and make use of my time.
On an UP note. We received an offer on our house today. A very pleasant offer money wise... but there are a few kinks in the contract and we are left dumbfounded as what to do. We have two other people still seriously interested and a new showing tomorrow. We are crossing our fingers that one of them will offer something just as pleasant with less kinks...
Only time will tell.
Despite all the complaining, I really am trying not to, it just is simply what's been occupying our time around here,
We are Blessed and we KNOW IT!
