I dare say we
celebrated every single second of Lacey’s birthday. We started our day with
breakfast with a candle in it, we opened presents and raced off to the beach
with our friends. It was a beautiful, hot day, and the kids had a blast
swimming. We scarfed down our lunch on the lapping shoreline and raced home to
give Laney a quick nap and allow Lacey some time to play with her new gift.
After a very quick nap we raced off again to meet more friends at Fun Spot. As
usual, it did not disappoint. I think all of the kids walked away with a
jackpot and a slew up candy and cheap prizes. Nothing but pure happiness. Cody
was just pulling into town from a work trip so we met him at McDonalds on our
way home for dinner. I had a church activity that night so we zipped home for
cake. Lacey had been browsing a cook book earlier in the month and came across
this ice cream cake and she could not stop thinking about it. It was totally
delicious and totally easy, and she was totally pleased! WIN! WIN! WIN!
Lacey had anticipated
her birthday for so long. She had asked me sometime in June if I would get her
a flashlight for her birthday, I had promised her I would, and then I totally
forgot. The night before her birthday she said, “Mommy, did you remember my
flashlight for my birthday?” SHOOT!!! I
made a last minute dash to Walmart to grab the golden flashlight and I’m so
glad I did. She has used it every night since and she was soooo soo happy to
open it on her birthday. I’m so glad she
reminded me. Yikes!!
Lacey is everything
that is good. She’s sweet, she’s kind, she’s a people pleaser. She always uses
please and thank you and reminds me often that she loves me. She does NOT
appreciate hugs and kisses, but will not go to sleep at night without doing our
secret handshake. It’s probably one of my favorite things ever. Lacey is
curious and hilarious. Like so, so, so stinking hilarious!!!
Recently we were
driving in the car and she said to me, “Mommy, is it bad for me to drink wine?”
I said, “Yeah, it’s not a good idea.” She said, “well, when I whine I drink my
tears. Is that why you always tell me to stop whining?”
Obvi, I laughed until
I nearly killed over.
One day when I was
helping Lacey tie her swimming suit, her necklace got caught in the ties and
she couldn’t see it for a second, she said, “That dang swimming suit gave me a
HARDEN TACK (heart attack) when I thought my necklace was missing.”
One morning I asked
Lacey if she wanted to walk out to the bus with me and she said, “Suuuuure Mom!
But don’t think I’m going to walk out there and just start explaining stuff!”
Lacey-Mom, do you
have blood on your toe?
Mom-No, just a scab.
Lacey-A scab is an
owie?
Mom-You’re right!
L-Oh, Yay! Now I’m
useful!
M-Useful?
L-Yeah! That’s when
you know stuff, if you know stuff, you’re useful!
M-I love you
L-(whispers) see,
there is useful stuff in this old empty brain!
She keeps us laughing all day every day. We are so grateful for her inquisitive mind, cheerful, happy nature.
We love you to heaven and back, Cece!!
XOXO
